Obituary for Ellen "Nellie" Aubry (Jones)
Passed away at the Glenboro Health Centre on Tuesday January 16, 2018 at the age of 96 years, Ellen "Nellie" Aubry (nee Jones) of Cypress River MB.
“Nellie” was born on July 8, 1921, the eleventh of fourteen children born to John & Jane Jones of Cypress River and lived her entire life in the Cypress River area. Following the death of her father John, she was a dedicated companion to her mother Jane for many years, moving into Cypress River from the family farm in 1958, when brother Murray married Jean.
Nellie married George Aubry on December 26, 1970. They had 42 years together, enjoying many community and family events. They enjoyed following harness racing and other sporting events. Nellie & George took great pleasure in their pet dogs Chico and Sparky and at one time a pet rabbit!
Over the years, some of Nellie’s jobs included babysitting, Carnation Foods and helping with the caretaking of the school in town with Murray & Jean.
Nellie was a member of the United Church Women, Cypress River Curling Club and the Cypress River Legion. She enjoyed taking part in the local fairs, as a director and as an exhibitor in various categories including garden produce, plants and especially baking. She loved to attend Bingos in the area, auction sales & yard sales. Nellie’s interests included curling, dancing, gardening, berry picking, baking, crafts, card games and her large collection of salt & pepper shakers. Nellie likely holds the record for hosting the most Tupperware parties and many will remember her famous wrist twist!
Nellie was predeceased by her husband George of 42 years, her parents John & Jane Jones. Brothers Robert (in infancy), Jack (Agnes), Richard (Edith), Robert (a second brother by that name), William, Dave (Berneice) Jones. Sisters Amy (Ernie Downing), Maggie, Jenny, Mary (Edward) Ruston, Laura (Glenn) MacDonald, Catherine. Father-in-law John & Mother-in-law Emma Aubry, brother-in-law Lawrence Leslie, niece Sharon Ruston and nephew Murray Jones Jr.
She is survived by her brother Murray (Jean) Jones, brother-in-law Rene (Laurette) Aubry, sister-in-law Evelyn Leslie and numerous nieces, nephews and their respective families.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday January 20, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Glencoe Cemetery, Cypress River with Sandra Rex officiating.
Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Cypress River Memorial Hall.
