Obituary for Larry Grant Myers

Larry Grant Myers
It is with profound sadness that we must announce the death of Larry Myers, aged 60, on Saturday February 24, 2018 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Larry was born April 30, 1957 and grew up on a farm near Belmont, MB. Larry, skilled in all things mechanical, found his calling in heavy-duty mechanics, machining, and long-haul truck driving. Larry's final job was at Sunrise Framing as the shop mechanic. He worked there until he was physically unable to, and advised on unfinished projects from his hospital bed.

Larry and Janice were high school sweethearts who married and had Chris and Tyler. The family vacationed often and had legendary car trips – bathroom stops were few and far between. Larry enjoyed snowmobiling with his family and friends; it was considered a great day if no one broke a bone or sunk a sled! Larry liked to build hot rods in his spare time, and was most proud of the Mustang that he and Tyler built together.

The arrival of Larry's three grandchildren, Maddy, Emily and Lily brought out a softer side of Larry. As his son Chris would note in jest, “this is not the man that raised me”. They invoked in him a sensitive side not often witnessed by others. Grandpa Larry could always be counted on for a genuine smile, loving hugs and endless hot chocolate and timbits. Larry's most recent project was a playhouse in his backyard for the girls. He put his heart into it, and he was able to see the girls enjoy it.

A special thank you to the nurses from Assiniboine Centre Palliative Care Ward and the doctors treating Dad for the end of life care and support they provided.

Larry leaves to mourn his passing his wife Janice (nee Abernethy) of Winnipeg, sons Chris (Jennifer) of Winnipeg, Tyler of Brandon, grandchildren Madeline, Emily & Lillian; father Harvey (May) Myers of Killarney, sisters Pat (Ken) Gibson of Williams Lake B.C., Linda (Louis) Cabernel of Bruxelles, brother Brad (Maura) of Brandon, brothers-in-law Kent Shewfelt of Crystal City, Robert Forster of Minnedosa as well as numerous extended family & friends. Larry was predeceased by his mother Dorothy Myers and sisters Judy Shewfelt & Myrna Forster.

A Celebration of Larry's life will be held on Friday March 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Belmont Community Hall. Reception to follow. Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in Larry's memory to the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
